Korzo Theater: Love Dolls by the Dudapaiva Company
On Friday 19 and Saturday 20 February, the Korzo Theater are presenting a dance production by the Dudapaiva Company, entitled 'Love Dolls'.
Love Dolls is an extravagant meeting of popular music, ballroom dancing, and an alternative expression of love made by choreographer Duda Paiva and director Paul Selwyn Norton in coproduction with the largest Slovenian theatre for puppetry the Lutkovno Gledalisce Ljubljana and Korzo Productions. In an underground club, guests surrender to their fantasies of love. The ever-present singer helps them to realise and sustain this mysterious nonreality; until the moment that this illusion filled with hidden desires is mercilessly shattered by the harsh light of reality.
The Dudapaiva Company has played national and international stages with their unique fusion of modern dance, puppetry, music, and multimedia. Duda Paiva’s greatest talent lies in his ability to bring his puppets to life. He manages to take the audience along in a theatrical illusion by giving his puppets human characteristics. The puppets acquire tension and timing through the physical technique of the dancer. Every movement, be it his own or the puppet’s, is choreographed. The schizophrenic dance lets blood course through the lumps of foam rubber, and makes the performance a feast for the eyes as well as the heart.
