The Auction: English Theater Production

(Tue 02 March 2010)

STET's English language play The Auction by Dutch playwright Tineke Endema and performed by TUSK International Theatre Company is still running until 28 March so make sure you don't miss your opportunity to see it! The play is set in an intimate setting, and will not disappoint. The theme will keep your mind whizzing long after the play is over, not to mention the surprise at the end! Get your tickets!

The Auction is a moving, close to life comedy about a wife, a dead husband and his mistress. As the wife prepares for the auction of the recently deceased husband’s belongings, the mistress claims what, she maintains, is rightfully hers.

Tineke Endema's intriguing tale is the story of betrayal, scheming, love, loneliness and cat-fighting; of two women who gave all their love and most of their adult lives to a man who held secrets for them both.

What do you do when you find out your husband had an affair before he died and that this affair lasted ten years? You are too late for retribution, that’s for sure.

What do you do when you find yourself trapped by the widow of your deceased lover, unwilling to hand over the only memento of ten years of passionate adoration? You are too late to say sorry, but you also make sure you keep your guard up as she might have some aces up her sleeve.

The Auction was first performed in 2007 at the Plantsoen Theater in Leiden in its original Dutch version. This black comedy was picked up by TUSK and STET as an example of Dutch playwriting translating beautifully into English language comedy, in every sense of the word.

This performance has been made possible by the support of the Municipality of The Hague and Pauw Sanders Zeilstra van Spaendonk – Communication Management and Public Affairs.
