In the spring of this year Orro Energy began operating as a supplier in the Dutch energy market. The company was set up by Celal Oruc and Wilfred Rottier, the former founders of Ortel Mobile. Orro Energy serves private consumers and business customers and stands out from other suppliers on account of its excellent service and transparent rates.

Service
“At Orro Energy we make simplicity, personal attention and respect for the customer our main priority,” says Wilfred Rottier, CEO of Orro Energy. “As an energy supplier we believe that excellent customer service and transparency are essential. If our customers have questions they can contact us by telephone, email and through our online chat service, not only during the day but also in the evenings and at weekends. Orro Energy is also able to assist customers in different languages and always makes sure that customers who do not speak Dutch as a native language are understood. Orro Energy is able to assist customers in English, French, Arabic, Turkish and Chinese among other languages. There are no complicated menus and no long waiting times.”

When dealing other energy suppliers, switching from one supplier to another can often be problematic. Wilfred Rottier: “We make sure that customers are able to switch from their existing energy supplier to Orro Energy quickly and easily without incurring additional costs. Once a customer has signed up with us, we send them confirmation of the switch and notify them of the new monthly instalment. The monthly instalment also covers all energy delivery and network management costs. So from them on the customer receives one bill. The customer’s former supplier sends a final bill and the switch is complete.”

Rates
Orro Energy also believes that transparency is of paramount importance when it comes to rates and conditions. Orro Energy’s monthly statement of account is straightforward and easy to understand. And the same goes for its annual statement. Wilfred Rottier: “We supply green energy without insisting on long-term commitments. If our customers wish to terminate their contract with us, they simply have to give us 30 days notice. Unfortunately, other energy suppliers often insist that their customers sign long-term contracts. Most customers are not aware of the advantages and disadvantages of this arrangement and often end up being dissatisfied with it in due course. Our rates are variable. Twice a year they are adjusted in line with the market, so our customers always pay a fair and competitive price.” Even though Orro Energy does not position itself as a company that competes on price, it is actually one of the cheapest suppliers in the market.

Green energy
Orro Energy supplies 100% green electricity and gas. To help its customers manage their energy consumption, Orro Energy uses a so-called meter reading coach. Rottier: “Several times a year Orro Energy asks its customers to submit their meter readings. Orro Energy can then check whether the customer’s current consumption differs from their average consumption. A change in circumstances at home or at work can result in a considerable difference in energy consumption. If this is the case, Orro Energy will contact the customer to discuss whether the monthly instalment needs to be revised. By monitoring its customers’ energy consumption in this way Orro Energy helps to helps to minimise the possibility that its customers have to make a top-up payment at the end of the year.”

Orro Energy is headed by Celal Oruc (President), Wilfred Rottier (CEO) and Frank de Vroed (Managing Director). The company moved into its new headquarters in Delft at the beginning of 2010 and started supplying gas and electricity to private consumers and business customers at the beginning of April 2010.
