Submission and Content Guidelines

Welcome to The Hague Online! We are a community-driven platform dedicated to providing news, events, and resources for the international community in The Hague, in English.

We welcome contributions from our readers and local organisations. To ensure quality and relevance, please carefully review the guidelines below before submitting content.

General Guidelines

  • Submissions must be relevant to the international community in The Hague and in the English language.
  • Content should be original, accurate, and free from plagiarism.
  • Avoid promotional or overly commercial content unless submitting a sponsored post (see below).
  • Articles should be informative, inclusive, engaging, and well-structured.
  • We reserve the right to edit submissions for clarity, grammar, and length.
  • Inclusion of your submission is reviewed individually and not guaranteed – the editor’s decision is final.

Types of Content We Accept

News & Articles

  • Reports on local developments, cultural topics, or issues affecting the international community.
  • Opinion pieces should be well-balanced and backed by facts.
  • Word count: 500-1,200 words.

Events

  • Event listings should include: title, date, time, location, description, and registration details
  • At least one image should be provided which is copyright free
  • Events must be inclusive, including being open to and welcoming to the English speaking international community.
  • We prioritise free or low-cost events but may include ticketed ones if they add value.
  • Information should be provided at least 2 weeks in advance of the event for consideration.

Guides & Resources

  • Practical information for internationals living in The Hague (e.g., housing, healthcare, education, legal matters).
  • “How-to” guides and tips based on reliable sources.

Interviews & Features

  • Spotlights on local businesses, organizations, and individuals making an impact.
  • Interviews should include direct quotes and a short bio of the interviewee.

Sponsored Content & Advertising

  • Businesses and organizations looking for promotional opportunities can submit sponsored posts/events.
  • Sponsored content must be clearly labeled and provide value to readers.
  • Contact us for rates and options.

Submission Process

  • Email your submission to editor@thehagueonline.com
  • Include your name, a short bio (if relevant), and any necessary attributions.
  • Attach images with proper credits which you have the rights to publish
  • Allow up to 2 weeks for review and publication.
  • No guarantees are given for inclusion and is at our discretion.

Community Standards & Ethics

  • We do not accept content that is discriminatory, defamatory, or misleading.
  • Our community is incredibly diverse and inclusive language and content is crucial.
  • Submissions should respect privacy and copyright laws.
  • We reserve the right to decline content that does not align with our values or mission or that we simply do not have the time to process. We receive a large number of emails requesting free publicity, and are not able to include all events or respond personally to all requests.
