The Hague is a popular destination this winter. The number of visits to the city center in December 2025 has increased by one million compared to the previous year. There was also a significant increase in visitors from outside the city.
With major crowd-pullers such as the Royal Christmas Fair, SnowFest, the Groot Kerstcircus Den Haag (Great Christmas Circus The Hague), and Cirque du Soleil, the Royal Winter Festival has contributed to an increase in visits to The Hague city center. Visits to Scheveningen also rose, with the annual Cool Event attracting 10 percent more visitors last December than in 2024.
Recent pedestrian counts by Resono show that the city center was visited almost 34 million times in December 2025. This is over a million more than in 2024, when there were just under 33 million visits; an increase of over three percent. Nearly 40 percent of visits came from outside the municipality of The Hague. This is considerably higher than a year earlier, when the share was about a quarter.
With a slight increase of almost 1 percent, more visits were also made to Scheveningen. A third of these came from outside the municipality, also a slight increase compared to the previous year.
Alderman for Economic Development Saskia Bruines is pleased with the results: “These figures show that the Royal Winter program is working. The cozy lights, fun activities, and warm atmosphere allow residents and visitors to enjoy The Hague even during the winter months. This is, of course, also good news for our city’s businesses and cultural institutions.”
The Royal Winter is one of the seasonal campaigns run by The Hague & Partners’ marketing agency, promoting The Hague as the most pleasant winter destination with a diverse winter program.
