Earlier this week, five active residents from Moerwijk, Morgenstond, Bouwlust and Vrederust Zuidwest received pins as a thank you for their efforts in the neighbourhood.
During a meeting in the Participation Kitchen, Heleen Joziasse, Latifa El Yousfi, Rachid Amaouch, Sabra Rahiembaks and Peter Weidmann were put in the spotlight. They have been committed to meetings between residents in The Hague Zuidwest for a long time.
The pins were presented by Alderman Martijn Balster (Housing, Neighborhoods and Welfare) and Fatma Koser Kaya, chair of the Social Cohesion and Participation alliance within the National Southwest Program.
Koser Kaya emphasized the importance of residents who help each other and others in difficult times. For example, ex-soldier Sabra Rahiembaks teaches women to stand up for themselves in her own gym in Bouwlust. She also guides people in mourning. Peter Weidmann became known in the neighborhood through his mobile food bank, and is now manager of the food bank shop in Buurt- en Kerkhuis Shalom. Heleen Joziasse does important work there as a diaconal development worker. In addition, she is, like pin recipient Rachid Amhaouch, a member of the Partner Council, which stands up for the interests of residents in Zuidwest. Latifa el Yousfi is active in Moerwijk. She ensures daily connections via the Moerwijk mothers and is the driving force behind the toddler café on the Heeswijkplein.
Alderman Balster: ‘In a time of growing uncertainty, they are anchor points in The Hague Southwest. With this beautiful tradition of handing out Southwest pins, we thank these key people in the district once again for their work in sometimes difficult circumstances.’
