On the edge of Loosduinen lie two former football fields belonging to the ADS football club. The club no longer exists, and the fields are no longer used. Therefore, the municipality is creating a new nature reserve of approximately 28,000 square meters. The name for the new area, suggested by residents, will be: De Groene Kamer (The Green Room). Alderman Robert Barker: “It’s wonderful that we’re creating a new nature reserve in Loosduinen with a green and fitting name.”
The design is now complete. The new nature reserve will feature dunes, grass, and flowers. Water will also be added, making the area attractive to insects such as butterflies and dragonflies, frogs, toads, and birds. Residents will soon be able to walk along a path. A bench will also be installed. Additional parking spaces for local sports clubs will be created at the edge of the area. The municipality will begin work in December. The work will be completed in April 2026, allowing the nature reserve to develop further.
New name: The Green Room
The municipality asked residents to propose a new name for the nature reserve. Nearly fifty ideas for a new name were submitted to the municipality. The name “De Groene Kamer” (The Green Room) was chosen. This name creates a fitting connection to the “Stenen Kamer” (Stone Room), an old archaeological site in Madestein. Here lie the remains of a 13th-century stone building.
More green in the city
The Hague is becoming increasingly populated, and the number of visitors is also growing. This puts increased pressure on nature. This new nature reserve will create space for plants, flowers, insects, birds, and other animals. It will also strengthen the green connection between Solleveld, Madestein, and the Uithof. Alderman Robert Barker (Green, Outdoor Space, Animal Welfare) is proud that more nature is being added to this busy city: “I’m very pleased that with De Groene Kamer (The Green Room), we’re adding more nature to the city. It’s important for people to live close to green spaces. But this is also good news for animals: new nature will be created, creating a new green habitat. This way, we’re strengthening The Hague’s vulnerable natural environment.”
