The final of the HI The Hague Student DJ Contest has been won by Ikram. The jury was unanimous after the first decision round. Thanks to her convincing, winning performance, she will be playing at various summer festivals in The Hague this year.
Last Monday evening, five promising DJs, all students, gave their best show for the audience and the jury in the Paardcafé, which included programmers from Paard, Danzig, Clubhopping, Stappen in Den Haag and the winner of last year’s Student DJ Contest Dj’s with Afritude, Danischka.
Unique style that transcends cultural boundaries
Ikram also participated last year, but was not chosen then. This year she gave a performance that blew everyone away. Ikram, born in Madrid and of Moroccan descent, is a student at Hogeschool Inholland in the Theresiastraat. She grew up with electronic beats, the Arabic music of her mother and Latin rhythms, which ignited her love for various music styles at an early age. A trip to underground raves in Germany strengthened her connection with music and laid the foundation for her own, unique style. Her sound is a fusion of influences that crosses cultural boundaries.
Performances
Over the next few months, Ikram will be performing at various festivals in The Hague, including the Bevrijdingsfestival Den Haag at the Malieveld, where she will be playing on the Sena Performers Stage. Many of the other finalists will be performing at the HI The Hague Student Experience at the same festival on May 5th.
