The Hague has invested heavily in dog walking areas over the past year. Potholes have been filled in several places, and fencing has been installed to prevent dogs from running on busy roads. A dog walking area, complete with tunnels and tires, has also been opened at the Energy Plant. This was initiated by residents.

The municipality is working on 25 off-leash areas across the city. Last year, for example, investments were made in several locations in Meer en Bos to fill in holes, and fencing at Oranjeplein was repaired. A major investment was also made in Kamperfoeliestraat, where the off-leash area was thoroughly renovated. Alderman Robert Barker (Animal Welfare): “Dogs need space to run and play. In a busy city, this can be quite a challenge. That’s why we’re investing heavily in our off-leash areas.”

Asmansweg

The dog park on Asmansweg (near the power plant) has also been renovated. Alderman Robert Barker (Animal Welfare) visited and spoke with many enthusiastic dog owners: “Based on a residents’ initiative, we’ve renovated this dog park. Tunnels and tires have been installed, as well as play sand for dogs. Many owners are very happy with this new dog paradise.”

New investments

Examples of areas being addressed in the near future include the Bosjes van Poot and the dog park on Delftselaan. A new dog park on Allard Piersonlaan is also being developed.
