Mayor van Zanen and Alderman Kapteijns recently visited the Hague Environment Services (HMS) and Hague Street Organisation (HSO) to thank all employees who work every day to keep The Hague clean.

‘A clean city seems so obvious, but it is not. Today I want to emphasise how important the work you do is,’ the mayor addressed all employees present.

‘Without our waste and cleaning heroes, the city would look very different, Alderman Kapteijns continued. ‘Your efforts are invaluable and deserve full recognition.’

During the visit, the mayor and alderman handed out breakfasts to the employees as a token of appreciation. They also boarded a sweeper and rubbish truck themselves to experience in practice what the work looks like and what challenges the cleaners face.

The mayor and alderman paid their visit to HMS and HSO as part of the Week of Waste Heroes; a national week to reflect on the important work of all waste and cleaning workers.

They thanked everyone who contributes to a clean city; besides the HMS and HSO, these include Den Haag Werkt and BBOZ. During the Week of Waste Heroes, the municipality of The Hague calls on residents to give a thumbs-up to all waste heroes as a token of appreciation.
