Housing corporations, tenants’ organisations and the municipality of The Hague have made new agreements on housing policy in the city for 2025. The housing partners have agreed that 1,450 social housing units will be built. In addition, almost 2,000 homes will be made more sustainable, which currently have energy labels E/F/G. Another 2,900 homes will be fitted with solar panels. In this way, we will make The Hague a place where people can live affordably and pleasantly. The agreements will apply until the end of 2025. After that, multi-year agreements will follow in line with the Housing Vision 2040.

The Hague housing market is under pressure. There is a shortage of homes, prices are rising and energy prices are also high. It is difficult for tenants to find a suitable home. According to alderman Martijn Balster (Housing, Districts, Welfare and Southwest), we are taking an important step in the right direction together with housing partners to tackle the housing shortage. “ With this package of agreements, we are going for more affordable and sustainable homes, where people like to live. And that is important, because pleasant living is not only about the physical living space, but also about a pleasant living environment. ”

A very large number of social housing units will be under construction in 2025. Agreements have also been made about improving the quality of life in neighbourhoods and districts. The corporations, tenant organisations and the municipality support so-called neighbourhood rooms to keep residential complexes and districts clean and safe. There is also help for tenants if they have difficulty paying rent, energy costs or other housing costs.

“ The energy transition is one of the most urgent tasks for our city ,” says alderman Arjen Kapteijns (Energy Transition, Mobility and Raw Materials). “ This year we are taking another important step by tackling even more homes with an EFG label. In addition, we continue to invest in sustainability and insulation, so that more people benefit from lower energy costs and a comfortable home. Together with the housing corporations, we ensure that the energy bill drops and tenants can live in a pleasant, sustainable and affordable home. ”

The performance agreements have been made with Arcade, DUWO, Haag Wonen, Hof Wonen, Staedion, WoonInvest and Woonzorg Nederland and their tenant organisations. Mooiland, Nester, Rijswijk Wonen, Vidomes and Wassenaarsche Bouwstichting are also working on this. The municipality and the above-mentioned corporations are working intensively together to implement the agreements as quickly and efficiently as possible for this year.

Gijsbert van Herk, chairman of the board of Staedion: “ With the performance agreements for 2025, the corporations and the municipality are committing themselves to strong ambitions to build new social housing, make existing homes more sustainable and improve the liveability of neighbourhoods. In doing so, we are committed to ensuring that residents can live affordably and pleasantly. And that, despite the high housing shortage, home seekers can find a home in the long term. Furthermore, we expect the municipality to contribute to accelerating the procedures for building new homes and making existing homes more sustainable, and to cooperate decisively with us in this regard. ”
