The iconic finish of last year’s Tour de France Femmes in Kijkduin has now been permanently commemorated. On 12 August 2024, the opening stage of the race ended on the Hague coast, cheered on by tens of thousands of cycling fans. Recently, cycling legend Michael Boogerd and Alderman for Sport Hilbert Bredemeijer unveiled a mosaic tile and an information board at the exact spot where the finish took place, ensuring this moment in The Hague’s sporting history will not be forgotten.

The mosaic tile, designed by Loosduinen artist and cycling enthusiast Patty van der Ende, features a striking image of a female rider. During the Kijkduin stage, Charlotte Kool – spurred on by the huge crowd – claimed the yellow jersey. The accompanying information board displays beautiful photos and fascinating details about the opening stage.

Bredemeijer said: “The finish of the Tour de France Femmes was a historic sporting event that I will never forget. And now we are counting down to the opening stage of the Tour of Holland in Zuiderpark later this month. It is special that the Kijkduin finish has been immortalised, and to unveil the tile together with Michael Boogerd. These are good times for cycling fans in The Hague: onwards to the Tour of Holland.”
