In The Hague, everyone should be able to live comfortably, even in neighbourhoods with nightlife and restaurants. That is why the municipality of The Hague is making a new subsidy available for acoustic research. Residents who suffer from noise pollution from pubs and clubs can use this to have the sound insulation of their home investigated.

The scheme stems from the Night Vision that was presented in 2024 by alderman Saskia Bruines (Economic Development and Culture). “As announced in the Night Vision, we are giving The Hague’s night culture a major boost. A vibrant nightlife is of course fantastic, but it can also cause noise pollution for people who live in or near the nightlife areas. In the event of nuisance, there is often still a lot to be gained in terms of sound insulation. With this subsidy, residents can gain insight into the possibilities that exist for their home,” says alderman Bruines.

Acoustic research for homes in entertainment areas

With this subsidy, residents can receive a maximum of €3,000 for research into the possibilities of better soundproofing their homes. The research shows which measures can help to reduce noise pollution. The subsidy is intended for homes in or near the five entertainment centres of the city: the Plein, the Grote Markt, the Spui, Buitenhof and Scheveningen Bad.

Combination with energy saving measures

The subsidy is not intended for the implementation of insulation measures themselves, but these can often be combined with energy-saving measures for which other subsidies are available.

€50,000 is available for this scheme. Residents who qualify can submit an application via thewebsite of the municipality of The Hague .
