Today, two new zebra crossings were opened on Prins Mauritsplein. The crossings are returning at the request of the Statenkwartier district consultation and the school principals of the four schools in the area. The zebra crossings are located at an intersection that has recently become part of a 30 km zone, which significantly improves traffic safety in the district.
Councillor Kapteijns (Mobility) was present at the opening:
“I am pleased that we can take this step together with the neighbourhood and the schools. The new zebra crossings make the crossing on the busy Prins Mauritslaan a lot safer, especially for children and pedestrians.”
The neighborhood council also responded positively.
Hanno Jol, board member for traffic and spatial planning of the Statenkwartier district consultation :
“We are pleased that the zebra crossings have finally been constructed at the Fred-Prins Mauritslaan intersection. We are also pleased that the avenue has now become a 30km zone. This is a result of the joint efforts of the 4 school principals, residents of the neighbourhood, the municipality of The Hague and the organisation of the NATO summit and the Statenkwartier neighbourhood consultation. Together we have worked hard to improve the safety of our children and residents on Prins Mauritslaan and Frederik Hendriklaan.”
The new situation is in line with the municipality’s broader commitment to a safer traffic environment in The Hague, with more space for pedestrians and cyclists in residential areas.
