The Madestein Landscape Park has been renovated and opened to the public. This green area between Vroondaal, Ockenburgh, and De Uithof is a popular spot for walkers, athletes, playing children, and nature lovers. Due to the growth of surrounding neighborhoods and the increasing use of the park, it was time for a major renovation. Alderman Hilbert Bredemeijer officially opened the Landscape Park recently by symbolically planting a tree.

Alderman Hilbert Bredemeijer: “With this redesign, we’ve made Madestein greener, more accessible, and more attractive for everyone. It’s fantastic to see how nature, recreation, and urban development converge here. A place where children can play, athletes can enjoy their laps, and nature lovers can relax.”

New walking areas and play facilities

A path has been constructed around the large lake, making it a pleasant walk or bike ride. The previously constructed cycle path has been given a distinctive yellow asphalt finish, similar to other parks in The Hague. Some of the sidewalks are semi-paved, providing greater comfort and a pleasant experience.

New play areas for children have been created in two locations in the park. In the natural play area, which also serves as a water reservoir, children can play with logs, stepping stones, and a water pump. The other play area, next to the restaurant, is specially designed for younger children and features various custom-made play elements.

New benches have been placed along the paths, and lockable waste bins have kept the park tidy. Much has been done in the green spaces: ponds have been enlarged, nature-friendly banks have been created, summer oaks have been planted, and grasslands have been sown with a variety of flowering plants. The bridle path crossings have also been improved and clearly marked.

Working together on a future-proof park

This redesign was realized in collaboration with organizations, residents, and partners such as GEM Vroondaal, the Delfland Water Board, and the Province of South Holland. They worked with the municipality to create a park that is a year-round destination. Although the park is already fully operational, the final work will be completed this fall, including planting new greenery for the planting season.
