Last Sunday, the Human Rights Festival took place in the Grote Kerk in The Hague. The festival, which is organized annually, once again brought together a diverse group of people to celebrate, discuss and experience human rights. With an inspiring program and a great turnout, it was a day full of connection and meaningful encounters.

Impressive opening and workshops
The day started with a powerful opening speech by Edzard Mik, followed by a beautiful musical Water Ceremony, accompanied by singer Sanne Rambags and the enchanting sounds of water electronics that made a deep impression on many of those present. After the opening, the participants divided into smaller groups and took part in interactive workshops and dialogue tables. Under the guidance of experienced discussion leaders, themes such as ‘Kinship between strangers’ were discussed. These dialogues offered space for personal stories and new insights, and stimulated the participants to think critically about the meaning of human rights in their own lives and environment.

Versatile programme full of culture and encounters
In addition to the dialogues and workshops, there was plenty of room for cultural activities and culinary treats. Visitors enjoyed music performances, creative workshops and a special Dabke dance workshop, which literally got the attendees moving. For those who wanted to delve deeper into the challenges surrounding human rights, there were conversations with migrants and speed dates organized by Amnesty International.

Looking ahead to next year together
The organization looks back with pride on a very successful edition and hopes to welcome even more visitors next year. The Human Rights Festival remains a unique opportunity to enter into a conversation about large and important themes in an accessible way, where everyone feels welcome.
