From Monday 3 to Sunday 9 March, the municipality of The Hague, in collaboration with restaurants in The Hague, is organising the Sustainable Restaurant Week. During this week, participating restaurants will be adding extra plant-based dishes to their menus. This will allow visitors to experience how delicious and surprising plant-based food can be.

Alderman Robert Barker (Outdoor Space, Animal Welfare & Environment) cordially invites residents and visitors of The Hague to participate: ‘The Sustainable Restaurant Week is the opportunity to discover how tasty and varied plant-based food can be. That is why I call on everyone: let yourself be surprised by the tasty plant-based dishes from restaurants in The Hague and at the same time contribute to a better climate.’

Versatile and tasteful

During the Sustainable Restaurant Week, restaurants in The Hague show how versatile and tasty plant-based cuisine can be – from a simple lunch to a culinary highlight. The municipality organizes the week to introduce residents of The Hague to plant-based food. A plant-based menu is tasty, healthy and contributes to a liveable planet.

The Sustainable Restaurant Week coincides with the National Week Without Meat and Dairy , which focuses primarily on home cooking. The Hague week, in addition to this, draws attention to the sustainable offering in the hospitality industry.

The Hague Food Strategy

In 2050, approximately 10 billion mouths will need to be fed worldwide. This can only be done within the limits of the planet if we adjust our menu. Meat and dairy have a major negative impact on our environment and the climate. That is why The Hague is focusing on a more sustainable menu with more plant-based dishes in the new Hague Food Strategy. Sustainable food requires less land. It therefore not only contributes to the health of humans and animals, but also to a healthy planet.

Climate deal: More plant-based on the menu in The Hague

The Royal Dutch Hospitality Association (KHN) department of The Hague and the municipality of The Hague are working together to work on the Hague menu of the future. This menu will feature more local, healthy and plant-based dishes. The Hague hospitality industry is being encouraged to offer more plant-based dishes. The municipality is bringing this to the attention, among other things, during the Sustainable Restaurant Week.
