The city council adopted The Hague’s 2050 environmental vision this week. The vision, “At home in a green metropolis by the sea,” provides a vision of The Hague’s future in 2050. Numerous interests are weighed and brought together in the vision. Over the past few years, residents of The Hague, businesses, students, advocacy groups, and other interested parties have contributed to the vision.

Robert van Asten, Alderman for Urban Development: “This decision marks a historic moment for The Hague. With this environmental vision, we’re setting a green target on the horizon and taking charge to keep our growing city livable. This document is an invitation to the city to continue working together to create pleasant and social neighborhoods in The Hague.”

The Hague 2050 Environmental Vision addresses the future of The Hague and the choices we make together regarding construction, nature, mobility, energy, and safety. It also clarifies which areas we want to preserve and protect. In the coming years, the municipality, together with The Hague residents, will further develop the plans into area visions for each district and will continue to discuss the future of our city.

Over the past few years, more than 3,000 residents of The Hague have contributed to the plans in the environmental vision. The municipal council also made several changes, for example, regarding green spaces and mobility. These are now being further developed.
