The Hague Montessori Lyceum is the proud winner of the cooking competition Sustainable Masterchef . During the final last week, students from six schools in The Hague competed live against each other. The team from the Hague Montessori Lyceum convinced the jury with their courgette spaghetti with paprika-feta sauce. The winners get the unique opportunity to prepare their dish in the staff restaurant of the municipality of The Hague on the Spui.

Alderman Robert Barker (Outdoor Space, Animal Welfare & Environment) was present to taste and announce the winner: ‘What we put on our plates has a major impact on the climate, our health and the world around us. That is why it is so important that young people learn what sustainable and healthy food is. Sustainable Masterchef shows in a fun and educational way that sustainable food is not only good for the planet, but is also tasty. I am proud of the efforts of all the students and congratulate the Haags Montessori Lyceum on their well-deserved win’.

The cooking competition, organised by Milieueducatie Den Haag, aims to make secondary school pupils aware of sustainable food and the impact of food on the earth. In the run-up to the finals, pupils followed interactive lessons about seasonal products, food waste and sustainability labels. The lessons were provided by The Waste To Success, a foundation that is committed to combating food waste.
