Scheveningen will host the European Robotics League (ERL) next year, a leading European robotics event. The municipality of The Hague will organize the upcoming edition in collaboration with euRobotics. The ERL brings together international teams, knowledge institutions, and technology companies to demonstrate and test the latest robotics applications in realistic urban environments. There will also be workshops, demonstrations, and discussion groups on the future of robotics. The event will take place from May 12 to 15, 2026, and admission is free.

Smart robots in action

During ERL 2026, the focus will be on various practical applications of robotics in everyday life. Think of robots that navigate autonomously in the city, collaborate with people in public spaces, and perform tasks such as inspection, logistics, assistance, and monitoring. Examples include inspecting the Scheveningen Pier with autonomous maintenance robots, using drones to deliver an AED to the beach, and smart delivery and cleaning robots. The competition challenges teams to develop innovative solutions that contribute to a smart, safe, and livable city.

Living Lab Scheveningen as a test environment

The competitions and demonstrations will take place at the Scheveningen Living Lab, a unique testing ground where technology and innovation converge. With its boulevard, beach, sea, and urban dynamics, Scheveningen offers an ideal environment for testing robotics in public spaces. Interested teams from across Europe can register their interest at eu-robotics.net .

“With the arrival of the European Robotics League, The Hague is demonstrating that we’re not justthinking about the future, but also shaping it here ,” says Saskia Bruines, Alderman for Economic Development. “By testing innovative robotics in our own public spaces, we’re connecting technology with societal challenges and strengthening The Hague as a city where knowledge, entrepreneurship, and international collaboration converge.”

For the public and professionals

The ERL is free to attend and offers a varied program with live demonstrations, educational workshops for young people and students, and networking opportunities for companies and researchers. Discussions will explore the opportunities and desirability of robotics in public spaces. This approach brings together science, business, and the public in an accessible way, focusing on technological innovation.

The European Robotics League is an initiative of euRobotics, an international non-profit organization that brings together more than 250 companies, universities, and research institutions in robotics. Through a diverse program of activities, including the European Robotics League (ERL), euRobotics promotes research, innovation, and collaboration in Europe. The Province of South Holland and the Municipality of Rotterdam are partners in the ERL organization. The Hague is proud to contribute to this mission as the host city and strengthen its position as a city of technology and innovation.
