Applications for 2025 will be accepted from Wednesday, October 1st, through Sunday, December 14th. A wide variety of options are available, including those from local businesses, so everyone can find a gift card that suits them.

Approximately 160,000 informal caregivers are active in The Hague. This means that one in four residents cares for someone with a long-term illness or disability, such as caring for a sick parent or child. More than 185,000 residents in The Hague also volunteer. Volunteering comes in all shapes and sizes: from helping out at the petting zoo to being a language buddy for people learning Dutch. From supporting the homeless to participating in a neighborhood watch team, helping to keep the neighborhood pleasant and clean.

Alderwoman Mariëlle Vavier: “Caregivers and volunteers are truly indispensable to our city. I’m proud that so many people in The Hague care for each other. Whether it’s at school, in sports clubs, or by helping family, a neighbor, or a vulnerable fellow citizen. That commitment is invaluable. With this gift card, we want to say: thank you for the difference you make.”

The Hague Caregiver Three-Day Event

The Hague Caregiver Three-Day Event will also take place from Thursday, November 6th, to Saturday, November 8th, in anticipation of the national Caregiver Day on November 10th. This three-day event is intended to recognize and thank caregivers who dedicate themselves to their loved ones and society. Because caregiving is often not an easy task.

During the Three-Day Caregiver Event, a variety of activities for caregivers will be organized. Throughout the city, there will be free workshops, lunches, and theater and music performances. All activities, times, and locations will be available on the website (in Dutch): https://www.stichtingvobis.nl/conferentie-op-8-november-as-ihkv-de-haagse-mantelzorg-driedaagse/conferentie-op-8-november-as-ihkv-de-haagse-mantelzorg-driedaagse
