The roof of the ADO stadium has been renovated and made fully storm-proof. After intensive research and construction, the stadium can now be used again with confidence, even in strong winds. With the project’s completion, the stadium is ready for many years of safe sports and event use.

On February 18, 2022, Storm Eunice caused severe damage to the roof of the ADO stadium. To determine why this storm was able to cause so much damage, various studies were conducted, including wind tunnel tests using a scale model of the ADO stadium and surrounding buildings. The research results were clear: a significant portion of the roof, including all low-rise sections and the ends of the main building, needed to be replaced to ensure its future structural safety.

During the recovery period, a temporary measure was in place: as a precaution, the field and stands were not allowed to be used when the wind was force 8 or higher.

Sports Alderman Hilbert Bredemeijer: “ADO already had the wind at its back on the pitch, but now the stadium is also ready for any storm. It’s fantastic that the stadium can be used again completely safely and without restrictions. The stadium is stronger, safer, and future-proof. I’m proud of everyone who contributed to this complex project and look forward to enjoying a great game of football in this beautiful stadium, even in strong winds.”
