In the coming years, the municipality of The Hague, school boards, childcare, youth services, and welfare organizations will work together towards a single goal: ensuring that all children and young people in The Hague have a strong foundation to grow, learn, and develop. The partners will build on the broad collaboration of recent years and consolidate what works well. This will enable all partners in the city to respond even more effectively to the challenges of our time.
“Every child and young person should have the opportunity to develop, regardless of their background,” says Alderman Hilbert Bredemeijer (Education). “By working closely together, from childcare to secondary education and from youth care to social welfare, we strengthen the foundation. We will continue what we have built in recent years and ensure that every pupil and student is seen, supported, and challenged.”
Future-proof developments
The Hague Educational Agenda 2026-2032 was developed and endorsed by all partners and focuses on an education and development environment that is flexible, inclusive, and future-proof. Collaboration, solidarity, and shared responsibility are essential to address challenges such as staff shortages, social inequality, and the pressure on mental well-being. This means a joint effort by all partners involved in the city, a focus on seamless development from preschool to secondary education, and investing in the people who work with children and young people in The Hague every day.
Building on what works
The Hague has achieved much in recent years: preschool education has reached more children than ever before, starter classes for preschoolers with special needs have been successfully implemented, and a growing number of partners are collaborating on safety, well-being, and talent development. In the new Hague Educational Agenda, the municipality continues these initiatives and formulates four shared ambitions for the coming years.
1. Build strong cross-sector networks
Children and young people must be able to rely on a solid foundation and a network close to home. Collaboration between education, childcare, youth services, parents, welfare, healthcare, sports, and culture will be further expanded. Barriers will be broken down, and support will be organized closer to the child.
2. Learning together: continuous development in inclusive and language-rich education
Children should be able to transition smoothly from preschool to secondary education. Language development plays a major role in this, as do inclusive childcare and education, where every child feels welcome and receives appropriate support.
3. Professionals in position: for the education of today and tomorrow
The Hague is investing in the development and sustainable employability of educational professionals and teachers. Their work is crucial. Therefore, training programs are being strengthened, knowledge sharing is being further enhanced, and the working environment is being improved.
4. Create flexible learning environments for a future-proof labor market and a resilient city
The city and region will be even more actively involved as a learning environment. Pupils and students will work on current social issues and be prepared for the job market of tomorrow. Furthermore, there will be continued focus on lifelong development for adults, ensuring everyone can continue to participate.
