This morning, the Townhouse Hotel together with Jolie Café Manger officially opened in the centre of The Hague. The festive opening took place at Bleijenburg 1, where general manager Lucas Drewes, development director Ralph Meijs and master baker Midas Senden cut an almost metre-sized Maastricht flan. This event not only opened the hotel, but also brought a piece of Maastricht to the Hofstad.

The opening attracted many visitors, with a long queue forming in front of the specially equipped ‘vlaai-thru’ – with a nod to the drive-thru – where a ‘vlaaiover’ handed out pieces of flan to the first 100 visitors – a sweet treat for local residents and passers-by to mark the warm welcome the Townhouse Hotel and Jolie Café Manger want to offer the city.

The Hague as a second home
The opening brings the Townhouse concept – which originated in Maastricht – to the Hofstad. Characteristic of Townhouse Hotels is that the city is brought ‘inside’. For example, guests step inside Jolie Café Manger. This is the living room for both lodgers and local residents and feels like a Hague home. For instance, cup of soup is served here upon entry and this is where the Maastricht flans from bakery Paulissen are baked daily.

Lucas Drewes, managing director, is enthusiastic about the many passers-by who tasted the Limburg hospitality today: ‘The reactions confirm exactly what we want to achieve with Townhouse: a place where you feel welcome and at home. This starts with a cup of soup on arrival or – like today – a slice of flan from our flan-thru. In a city like The Hague, where history and dynamism come together, the Townhouse concept fits perfectly. We are proud that we are now also able to establish this homely feeling here and symbolically hand it over to the city today. As the saying goes: a good neighbour is better than a distant friend – and with Jolie Café Manger, we want to be that for this city.’

Jolie is open every day from 07:00 for coffee, croissants or a fresh punt vlaai (to go). There are also freshly made sandwiches, quiches and Dutch pastries that can be eaten on the spot or collected. Afterwards, lunch turns into drinks and you can join us for dinner.

The Townhouse Hotel has 88 comfortable rooms ranging from two to four beds. The interior combines natural materials, plants and art with subtle references to The Hague. Even the hotel’s mascot – house fish Blub – can be brought into the room on request, symbolising companionship and hospitality.
