On 5 May, Bevrijdingsfestival Den Haag returns with a packed programme of live music, performances and activities celebrating freedom. Taking place on the Malieveld, the festival features multiple stages with a diverse line-up of Dutch artists, bands and DJs performing throughout the day and into the evening.

The festival on 5 May marks Liberation Day (Bevrijdingsdag), one of the most important national days in the Netherlands.

It commemorates the end of the World War II in the Netherlands in 1945, when the country was liberated from Nazi occupation. The day is about both remembrance and celebration: remembering the impact of war and occupation, while also celebrating freedom, democracy, and human rights.

Across the country, including in The Hague, festivals like Bevrijdingsfestival Den Haag are organised to bring people together. Music, performances, and cultural activities are used as a way to reflect on what freedom means today and why it should not be taken for granted.

Alongside the music in The Hague, visitors can explore cultural activities, spoken word, and interactive projects, as well as a range of food trucks and terraces.

Bevrijdingsfestival Den Haag is free to attend. The festival grounds on the Malieveld open at 12:00. The programme at the Provinciehuis starts earlier, at 11:00. Concerts on the Malieveld begin at 13:00. Bars close at 22:45 and the festival grounds close at 23:00.
