On Saturday, February 1, 2025, Chinese New Year, the year of the snake, will be celebrated grandly as usual in Chinatown The Hague. This centuries-old tradition marks a new beginning in which happiness and prosperity take centre stage. Evil spirits are expelled and all good is welcomed.
For a new year full of positivity, fireworks are set off. The Chinese dragon and lion dance also plays an important role. The dragon symbolises power and nobility, while the lion brings luck and prosperity.
At 12:30pm, the official opening will be held at the Gedempte Burgwal. Shortly after, Chinese lions and dragons will move throughout Chinatown until 18:00pm, accompanied by drum roll and fireworks.
From 12:00pm to 18:00pm, there will be an exhibition of Chinese zodiac sculptures at the Q-Park Bijenkorf area and Rabbijn Maarsenplein.
The festivities in Chinatown are free and offer a unique opportunity to get to know the rich Chinese culture. More information can be found on the website below (in Dutch)
