What do Vincent van Gogh, The Rolling Stones, and Marit Bouwmeester have in common? They are becoming part of the Walk of Fame. Scheveningen has countless stories. Stories of fishermen, rescuers, artists, athletes, entrepreneurs, and other remarkable people who have given this coastal town character. Stories from the past and present. From June 19 to September 14, the Walk of Fame can be viewed, featuring tributes to cabaret artist Karel de Rooij, musical star April Darby, and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, among others.

Scheveningen is known for its sea, beach, and boulevard, but above all for the people who live, work, and have made history there. With the Walk of Fame, these stories are given a visible place in the public space. The route consists of eight specially designed “tjoenkelaars” (a type of tumbling board) where visitors are introduced to individuals who symbolize courage, talent, entrepreneurship, culture, sport, and perseverance. In doing so, not only is the past made visible, but visitors are also invited to reflect on the rich history and identity of Scheveningen.

The Walk of Fame features the founder of the seaside resort Jacob Pronk, the Scheveningen girl Anna van de Toorn, painter Vincent van Gogh, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, legendary The Rolling Stones, cabaret artist Karel de Rooij, variety artist Josephine Baker, musical star April Darby, plastic soup surfer Merijn Tinga, Olympic sailor Marit Bouwmeester, surfer Robby Naish, and seaweed farmer Paul Einerhand. The stories are written in an accessible style by Caroline Ludwig (Tekstlab) in both Dutch and English and are supported by visual material. The design was provided by Studio Duel.
