The Curious Room, at Elandstraat 10, is a curated salon space, inspired by old museums and English eccentricities — which brings together a unique selection of art, antiques, secondhand and antiquarian (English language) books and vintage treasures.

However, there’s a twist — as you explore the shelves and displays in this small, atmospheric room, you’ll find that some of the objects want to talk to you… and so you can choose to listen to a series of audio stories that reveal the personal histories of some of the items on display.

From a dreamy 1920s doll’s house, to a cheeky 19th century penny, the antiques come to life through the tales they tell — but everything is for sale, so if a particular item ‘speaks’ to you, there’s an opportunity for you to take it home and become the next owner in its long history.

The work is the creation of Sarah Blake, an English writer and theatre-maker who began her career as an interior design journalist, but now produces work for audio and stage.

She opens The Curious Room every Saturday from 11.00-18.00 — and you can find out more at: www.thecuriousroom.com
