The free themed walk ‘Royal Tour’ in The Hague has been expanded this month with two new royal sights. It is a gift to the public around the King’s birthday and marks the start of a royal spring in the royal city.
Two new highlights have recently been added to the Royal Tour route, complete with current audio fragments. Firstly, the new, changing display case exhibition Royal Traditions in Pictures of the Royal Collections at Noordeinde 64.
Currently, it is dedicated to the centuries-old tradition of credentials. Among other things, special photographs, a ceremonial uniform of an aide-de-camp to the King and a replica of George Washington’s credentials can be admired.
Courtyard
In addition, the Binnenhof Renovation Information Centre has been added to the route. In the visitor centre at Plaats 22, which is free to visit, you can delve into the 800-year history of the Binnenhof. You will find special objects from the buildings and archaeological excavations, such as replicas of the lion bones that were found.
For centuries, the Binnenhof was the domain of counts, countesses, princes and stadtholders. It recently emerged that the Binnenhof was already a gigantic complex in the 13th century; a court with royal architecture and an even greater ambition as an imperial palace. In the Information Centre you can discover more about the three founders of the Binnenhof, Floris IV, Willem II and Floris V and their ambitious building plans. A story of power, struggle, status and ambition.
Royal adventure
With the Royal Tour you will go on a royal adventure at your own pace along iconic highlights of The Hague such as palaces, museums and sights. The free ‘self-guided’ walk includes twenty places in the city center, including Paleis Noordeinde , the Mauritshuis , the Galerij Prins Willem V and the Palace Garden .
With video and audio fragments, the rich royal history comes to life in image and sound. For example, you can take a digital look at the Knight’s Hall of the Binnenhof, or you can just stand among the horses in the Royal Stables .
The Royal Tour is over four kilometers long and takes about an hour. You can find the tour on denhaag.com and follow it using your smartphone. The route of the Royal Tour can be found here (in Dutch).
