Dress Code: Casual – weather appropriate (sunscreen will be available).
Event details:
- Starting at 11:00 with a traditional karanaga (welcome), followed by speeches, waiata (traditional singing) and haka.
- Art exhibition: He Kaupapa Waka – Exhibition by Te Rawhitiroa Bosch
- Paddling down the canals of Leiden in a traditional Waka with Njord Waka Crew.
- Traditional wood carving and weaving demonstrations
- Readings of “ We’re All Just Birds” by New Zealand children’s book author Rasam Moghimi and “Sing like a Unicorn” by New Zealand children’s book author Jeremy Redmore
- Children’s traditional Matariki kite-making (manu tukutuku0, Matariki storytelling and baton (ti rākau) games.
- Haka, waiata (traditional singing) and poi workshops.
- Lecture by dr. Wonu Veys
- Live music and a New Zealand style BBQ: available for purchase – cash and card payments accepted. The museum café will also be open for food and drink options.
